I am passionate about microorganisms and their interactions with the surrounding environment

During my PhD I investigated the phenomenon of metabolic heterogeneity, an intrinsic feature of microbial populations occurring as a result of metabolic history and fitness for better adapting to different environmental and growth conditions. I studied microbes interactions and their metabolism in different environments, mostly using single-cell approaches such as nanoscale imaging (NanoSIMS) and correlative microscopy for linking specific microbial functions (metabolic activity) with their morphology (SEM and HIM) and their identity (FISH, CARD-FISH).

My current research is particularly focused on the biotic and abiotic interactions of microbes and how these shape the energetic landscape and their ecosystems. Specifically, I am studying the physical and metabolic interactions of electrogenic bacteria with minerals and their spatial distributions to identify specific patterns of microbial colonization and their potential role in biogeochemical cycles.

In my free time I enjoy cooking (especially baking!), hiking and walkind in the nature and I do Yoga regularly. Strongly reccomended to counterbalance the stress and the busy days in the lab.
